The Best Website for Budding Writers

If you’re looking for a website that offers great writing advice, prompts as well as inspiration from experts in the field then look no further than Writing Excuses – the hub for short podcasts, breaking down everything you need to know about writing books. It is hosted by novelists Brandon Sanderson (author of the Mistborn trilogy), Mary Robinette Kowal (who wrote The Glamourist Histories) and Dan Wells (best known for his I Am Not A Serial Killer novel) as well as comic book writer Howard Tayler.

“Fifteen minutes long, because you’re in a hurry, and we’re not that smart.”

“Fifteen minutes long, because you’re in a hurry, and we’re not that smart.” That’s right, as the tagline suggests, it’s fifteen minutes long (or sometimes slightly longer) so if you’re in a hurry, you’ll still have sufficient time to give each episode a good listen. Since these are podcasts, you can even listen to them on the go, as you head off to work, which means that you won’t be wasting any valuable time. Well, that is if you call listening to great advice ‘wasting time’.

Each episode centres on a particular genre or element of writing and in the podcast the writers explore that particular topic. Every episode breaks with an intermission in the middle where a book related to the topic of discussion is suggested. At the end of the podcast, you are given a writing prompt which you can go ahead and start on.

Thanks to Writing Excuses, my writing has improved greatly and I now understand the different components that go into making a story work.

Do be sure to give the podcasts a listen – one day at a time of course. Entertaining and vital to any aspiring writer, there is no excuse as to why you shouldn’t head off to this website, right about now.

Thanks for reading. Till next time, this is Nina signing off.

Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Writing Excuses.  I am simply a listener of the podcasts and since it has helped me so much, I want to bring more attention to it so that other writers can better their skills.
