Summer Essentials

Ahh sun…When we think of summer, certain things immediately come to mind. Beachy holidays, clear blue sky, bikinis, parasols, picnics, cocktails and ice-cream…

To help you make the most of the warmer weather, while it lasts, I’ve put together a list of things – mostly fashion pieces – you’ll want to grab to beat the heat.

Summer, for me, isn’t complete without:

  • A sun hat
It’s summer so time to take out that sun hat. Whether you’re going on holiday or just enjoying a day out in the sun, nothing says summer more than a large chapeau.
  • The kimono
No, not the dragon (that’s Komodo). I’m talking about the light, airy fabric you can wear over your shorts and tee. It’s perfect for summer and won’t leave you dying of sweat.
  • That pair of shorts
When the weather gets too warm, a pair of shorts is your best friend. They’re comfortable and can be worn with almost anything.
  • A t-shirt
This one is fairly obvious. When it’s warm, you want to wear minimal clothing, without going overboard of course. T-shirts are your go-to summer tops.
  • Your summery dress
Get those legs out ladies. I’m sure you’ve been waiting all year to get to wear that summer dress. So come on, what are you waiting for?!
  • Sunglasses
Stylish and protective too. Sunglasses complete any look and you don’t even need to reserve them for the summer season – wear them all year round!
  • Sunscreen
Invest in a good cream. Regardless of your skin tone – fair, medium or dark – you need to protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays. Lucky for us girls, most foundations already come with added protection.
  • Powder foundation
When the sun melts your makeup, it’s more sensible to pick powder over liquid. Get your hands on some powder foundations and save your liquid ones for winter.
  • Water
Duh. Many of us tend to forget this one. With temperatures soaring, you really can’t afford to leave your water bottle behind. Just freeze your bottle overnight then the next day you will have something akin to an ice pack to carry around.
  • Ice lollies, or as my fellow Americans would say – popsicles.
These are great for blistering hot days. So fill up your freezer. Just remember to go easy on the sugar.

Well beauties, that’s my round-up of summer must-haves. Hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Have I missed anything out? Let me know in the comments below.

Enjoy your summer!
