Just imagine yourself on a remote island somewhere, the sand beneath your feet, laying on your towel, eating a delectable ice-cream. Maybe someone appears over you, blocking the sun from your view. You look up from under your sun hat and realise that it’s Brad Pitt, looking ten years younger than he does now… Okay, scratch that last part.
Let’s rewind that. We all love holidays and jetting off somewhere exotic but this may not always be possible. Sometimes our budgets simply don’t allow us for that much desired quality break. Instead of wasting money, money you don’t have, why not make the most of your holiday at home. Now I know, I made you dream of vacationing. Whoops, my bad. But staycationing can be just as fun, if you know how to do it right.
Here’s how to make the most of your staycation:
Explore your hometown.
This year, if you’ve found yourself at home, make the most of this opportunity to explore your inner city. You may think you already know all there is to know about this city/town of yours but you’d be amazed at what you can find. You might have visited all the museums and famous landmarks but what about hidden gems? Do a little digging and see what pops up. Pencil it in and make sure you take the time to really appreciate what your hometown has to offer.
Please keep phones turned off at all times.
Electronic devices (mobile phones, laptops and TVs) are all forms of distraction. When you’re on holiday, you want to feel one with nature – it’s incredibly therapeutic – and you certainly don’t want to be interrupted. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t go a day without my phone or laptop, but sometimes it’s nice to switch off.
Try a new cuisine at a restaurant you’ve never dined at before, something high end if possible. You deserve a treat after all. If money is not on the menu (haha, you see what I just did there?), how about cooking up some delicious meals from the comfort of your own home? Then, get dressed, set the table and enjoy your dish. Bon appetit!
Dress like a tourist.
Just because you’re staycationing doesn’t mean that you can’t dress the part. When it comes to fashion, I wear what I want when I want. I suggest you do the same, if you want to make the most of your staycation. It can be fun to pretend to be a tourist. Nobody has to know. Ssh, I won’t tell.
Put your feet up.
Lastly, make sure you are getting plenty of rest, mainly in the form of zzzs so that you feel re-energized when it’s time to head back to work. Sleep in on days when you just don’t feel like getting up early. Invite your friends over for movie nights and popcorn, you earned it.
Thanks beauties. I hope this helps to make your staycation that extra bit special. You don’t even need to reserve it for the summer holidays; staycationing is ideal for any time of year. Plus, it’s great for the soul!
Till next time! Nina. XOXO.
