Today, I want to talk about the rules I want you to live by in order to maximise your chances of finding happiness.
Like I said before, the road to success and happiness is not an easy one, but it is far from impossible. With the correct attitude, you can make your life worth waking up to. Every. Single. Day. I admit I still struggle with this and do find myself in a low state from time to time, but that’s okay – the important thing is not to give up.
So without wasting any more time, let’s get straight to the guidelines I want you to follow here on Nina Verocia.
The V for Vivre (French for ‘live’ in case you’re wondering) rules of conduct:
1. Be your own best friend.
When you’re alone and you have no-one to turn to, it’s nice to know that you can count on yourself, for support and guidance. Learn to be self-sufficient and find solutions to your own problems – you’ll be amazed at how wonderful you’ll feel to know that you can rely on yourself to get things done.
2. Don’t judge.
It is human to judge, it is ingrained in us, something we do naturally when someone walks in through the door. However, it doesn’t mean that it is acceptable. Be a little more sensitive towards other people’s feelings, even when you feel the need to judge. You may not agree with someone’s way of life but it is up to them, not you, to decide how they ought to live their lives. And vice versa.
3. Be grateful.
This is really the secret to happiness (more on that here –https://ninaverocia.com/2016/08/11/finding-happiness/). If you focus on the good stuff, it’ll outweigh the bad stuff. I know it’s not always easy, especially when you’re going through something really difficult, but it’s doable. It’s all about appreciating the little things. When you start appreciating the small things that you have, that’s usually when you start experiencing bigger, more life changing events.
Your dream is going to require a lot of work. And I mean A LOT. So be sure that this is really what you want. There’s still time to take a different career path. Whatever you decide, make sure it fills you up with joy and excitement, and that it’s something you’d be thrilled to do for the rest of your life.
5. Never give up.
Make a promise to yourself right now to never quit on your dream. Channel the mindset of an athlete – https://ninaverocia.com/2016/08/26/how-to-think-like-an-olympian/). Giving up on your dreams is like abandoning a part of you. You’ve decided that you’re not good enough and you’re not even going to try. If this is something you really want, ask yourself this, “When I’m an old lady/man, will I look back on this and wish I had tried harder? Will I regret the decision to give up?” If the answer is yes, you’d better go after that dream.
6. Be in the moment.
Don’t dwell on past mistakes. Don’t live with regrets. It’s okay that you’ve made mistakes (check this post out for more on that – https://ninaverocia.com/2016/08/28/the-beauty-of-making-mistakes/) but it’s time to move forward. If you’re not happy with your past, work on the present to ensure that the future you create is a brighter one.
7. Don’t leave it to luck.
Luck may play a part to a small extent but mostly success is the result of years of endless hard work. It is not something that is simply just handed to someone nor is it something which can happen overnight, even if it may seem that way. Feeling discouraged? Don’t be. This is a good thing, it means that you have the chance to create your own luck by adjusting your mindset. The power is in you to drastically change your life. Toss luck aside, trading it for some good ol’ hustle.
8. Take care.
Make sure that you are taking care of yourself from the inside and out. Drink plenty of water – the number one thing for your health, fit in some exercise into your weekly schedule, eat healthy and don’t neglect your hair and skin.
They say it’s contagious and I couldn’t agree more. When you see someone smile at you, doesn’t it make a difference to your day? A little advice though – I’d stick to smiling to people of your own gender otherwise it might come off as slightly odd.
10. Love yourself.
Not in a superficial sort of way. Love who you are inside. Know yourself and don’t let anybody put your down.
If you are going about your day merely existing instead of living, you’re missing the whole point of life. It is intended to be lived. A wise man once said to live as if you were to die tomorrow and to learn as if you were to live forever. I’m sure you know that those are the words of Gandhi. He was right. Life is for living, it’s for exploring, learning and evolving. Don’t allow fear to hold you back. There is “adventure out there” and instead of hiding where you feel safe and comfortable, now is the time to be brave, go out and seek it.
Follow these basics rules and you should be on your way to a happier you. Take it from someone with experience, it’ll be tough at first but just know that you’re stronger than you think, more beautiful than you believe and far more capable than you know.
Good luck! Nina. XOXO
